Candle Shoppe of the Poconos

The Candle Shoppe of the Poconos located in Swiftwater Pennsylvania, this would be a location that would prove to be one of the most interesting locations I ever investigated. I first heard about the quaint candle shop from a co-worker some time ago and filed it away among the many conversations one has in this field of places you should investigate. In late 2021 my schedule allowed me to get a few investigations in before the year would come to a close. I immediately thought about that conversation I had with a co-worker and reached out to the candle shop. I reached out to the owner, Linda Schlier about my interest to investigate her location.

In the coming weeks I had the opportunity to chat with Linda about the location and set a date for my investigation. The investigation would take place the day before Thanksgiving, I reached out to my team and made them aware that we would be able to investigate this location nestled in the Pocono mountains.
I began to put together a historical record for the location, this includes property history and also profiles of the people from the properties history. When we ask questions to spirit during spirit radio sessions, I feel that we get to bring up factual events and dates that could work as a trigger question for response.

This information is collected from ancestry sites, find a grave and other websites that offer historical and paranormal information. One of the most detailed paranormal reports is from a television show called The Haunted that aired in 2009 on Animal Planet. The episode is entitled The Lost Souls of the Asylum. The episode is split into two separate episodes and The Candle Shoppe is featured on the second part of the show. Linda and her husband Jim are featured in the episode and recount their experiences at the location. 

The episode is very revealing on the activity that is being reported by staff and some customers of the candle shoppe. The reports range from seeing shadow figures to small ghostly forms of what is described to be small animals scurrying across the floors. The phantom sounds of people talking to children laughing as if playing in another room. Talking with one of the candle shop’s employees, Marlena spoke about some of her encounters with the spirits of the candle shop. She has encountered so much different activity from discarnate voices speaking to hearing movement in the shop, when no one is present.

She also reported hearing someone walk up behind her and felt a breeze sweep over her that soon dissipated. All these encounters with spirits at the shop, although frightening to the experiencers, I must reiterate that nothing is malevolent, negative or looking to cause harm. So many of the spirits that I have encountered doing my work are just trying to make the presence known. They are attached to a location because it was a place in life that they have affection for. This candle shoppe once was a home for this doctor and his family, memories were made here and events that brought extreme happiness and unfortunately​ sorrow transpired behind it’s walls.
